Eric van der Schans
Director Environmental Management, Port of Rotterdam AuthorityEric van der Schans is Director Environmental Management at the Port of Rotterdam Authority since 1 September 2015.
Born in Enschede, the Netherlands in 1971, Eric holds a master degree in chemical engineering from the University of Twente.
He started his career at Stork in in 1996 as environmental & safety consultant for the Oil & Gas industry and worked on various projects in Europe and the Middle East. In 2000 he joined Royal Haskoning DHV and continued to work as consultant, project manager and team leader. In 2005 he joined Antea Group to lead their safety consultancy practice. In later years he has been responsible for international acquisition strategy of Antea Group as well as international business development.
As director Environmental Management he is responsible for spatial planning, environment, port accessibility (by rail, road, inland shipping and pipelines) as well as the CSR-programme within the Port of Rotterdam Authority.
In addition to his role with the Port of Rotterdam Authority, Eric van der Schans is:
– Chair of Environmental Shipping Index (ESI) Working Group and member of the IAPH Council
– Chair of the World Ports Climate Action Program
– Chair of the VNO-NCW expert committee on Biodiversity and nitrogen
Eric and his partner have three kids and dog. He lives in Leiden. In his free time he enjoys running, indoor rowing and boating.
