Professor of Social Psychology, University of Amsterdam

Frenk van Harreveld is Professor of Social Psychology at the University of Amsterdam and Director of Research at the Psychology Department. His research explores how psychological processes such as ambivalence and uncertainty, and risk perception influence decision-making in complex societal contexts. His work predominantly focuses on sustainability, with projects on the psychology of plastic use, sustainable textile consumption, and behavioural interventions to reduce the environmental impact of health care. He is one of the initiators of the network approach to attitudes and has published extensively in leading journals. Van Harreveld is also one of the founding members of SEVEN, the UvA’s new institute for interdisciplinary climate research. At the “New Narratives for Leaving Fossil Fuels Underground” conference, he will speak about the behavioural dynamics underlying transitions away from fossil energy.
