Patrick Bond
Professor University of JohannesburgPatrick Bond, a political economist and political ecologist, teaches at the University of Johannesburg, where he is a Distinguished Professor of Sociology and Director of the Centre for Social Change. He has also taught at the Universities of Witwatersrand, KwaZulu-Natal and Western Cape, and guest-lectured at more than 150 other scholarly institutions across the world. His PhD was earned at Johns Hopkins University in the Department of Geography and Environmental Engineering, and before that he studied finance at the Wharton School of Business at University of Pennsylvania. But his main education came in research with civil society: the environmental-justice, anti-apartheid, community, labour and global solidarity movements. He authored or edited a half-dozen books and hundreds of articles on political ecology, including Politics of Climate Justice.
