Emeritus Professor, University of Amsterdam, and Chair Assessment Committee National Science Agenda Research Programme (NWA-ORC)

Prof. Dr. Isa Baud is emeritus Professor of International Development Studies at the University of Amsterdam and led the Governance and Inclusive Development Research Programme at the Amsterdam Institute for Social Science Research until 2015. She was the president of the European Association of Development and Training Institutes (EADI) from 2011-2016. She was Scientific Coordinator of the EU-funded and EADI led research project “Chance2sustain: Urban Chances – City Growth and the Sustainability Challenge” (2.6 M Euro).

Throughout her career, she has worked extensively on issues of urban development, focusing especially on local governance arrangements, urban environmental issues (SWM),  exclusion, poverty and livelihood issues and has published widely on issues of urban development in India. She focused on how governments and citizens in cities with differing patterns of urban economic growth make use of participatory spatial knowledge management to direct urban governance towards more sustainable development.  During her career, she successfully (co-)supervised thirty-nine PhD projects of students from all over the world.
Since retiring, she has worked extensively on accreditation, research and institutional evaluation committees, both in the Netherlands and abroad, leading several such panels.

She is Chair of the national Knowledge Platform on Inclusive Development, financed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs since 2014.
She was the Chair of the Research Assessment Committee of the NWO Programme NWA (National Science Agenda Programme) from 2023-2025, which provides funding for large scale complex projects delineated in the National Science Agenda.
