Daniël Hogendoorn

Senior strategic advisor, Gemeente Amsterdam

Daniël is a senior strategic advisor working on how Amsterdam, where he was raised and where he now in turn raises his family, operationalises its climate ambitions and moves within planetary boundaries. His work focuses on the financial, legal, spatial planning, and risk interfaces where municipal decisions actually commit to futures—climate budgets, visions and plans, public investment structures, and law. He previously worked for the city of The Hague, and held research posts at UCL, TU Delft, and a recent fellowship at UvA’s IAS. His current talk examines why urban transitions stall: not because we lack ideas, but because the binding interfaces where cities decide are still shaped by the logic of yesterday.
