Forward Fest

March 16th, 2026

Event Description

The world order is shifting. What seemed set in stone for decades is now up in the air. We are moving from a unipolar to a multipolar world, in which new power blocs are emerging and old certainties are fading. Whether this will lead to a new balance or to increasing fragmentation is far from decided.

Amid this shift, the global South is increasingly asserting its place. Countries like India, Brazil, and South Africa are forging new alliances, BRICS is growing, regional cooperation is gaining importance, and multilateral institutions are being challenged to reform.

What does this geopolitical acceleration mean for international solidarity? Is there room for more equitable relationships between North and South—or do new dependencies loom? And how do Europe and Belgium position themselves in a world where U.S. influence is less a given and China and Russia are becoming more active?

This session explores both opportunities and tensions: from new partnerships to tough questions about double standards, power, and justice in a changing world order.
