UN 11th Forum on Science, Technology, and Innovation for the SDG’s May 5th, 2026 Prof. dr. Joyeeta Gupta (Speaker, Member of 10-Member-Group) UN 11th Multi-Stakeholder Forum on Science, Technology, and Innovation on the SDGs, New York, United States Event Description From the 5th to the 8th of May, the 11th Multi-Stakeholder Forum on Science, Technology, and Innovation will take place, holding its formal sessions on the 6th and 7th of May. The forum will focus on the role and contributions of science, technology and innovation to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals. Prof. dr. Joyeeta Gupta will be present at four different events: May 5th – International Science Council (ISC) on Science and the Future of Multilateral Cooperation The discussion will explore both the potential and the limits of science diplomacy and international scientific collaboration in enabling dialogue, strengthening cooperation, and supporting more inclusive participation in global scientific processes. May 6th – Fireside chat on STI progress since adoption of SDGs The fireside chat will build directly on the keynote presentations. The keynote speakers will join the Co-Chairs of the 10-Member-Group of High-level Representatives, to reflect on STI progress since the adoption of the SDGs in 2015, and how to turbocharge STI for SDG delivery and Pact implementation in the age of rapid technological change, generative AI, and weakened multilateralism. After 11 years of lessons in strengthening the contributions of science to SDG progress, the next 4 years to 2030 will require bold and creative action to overcome persistent impediments to nurturing innovation, technology diffusion and science collaboration. SDG achievement depends on an enabling environment for harnessing STI solutions.  May 6th – Session 1: Transforming water systems with science, technology and innovation This panel explores STI opportunities for water infrastructure and service delivery (SDG 9) and the role of cities as STI solution accelerators (SDG 11). It will consider solutions related to informal settlements, livelihoods, gender equality, climate resilience, data center demands, and digital and nature-based approaches. May 6th – Side ERC Event: Joint session on Frontier Science around the UN Forum on Science, Technology & Innovation for SDGs This session will highlight concrete examples of frontier research breakthroughs, innovations and technologies that support the implementation of SDGs, especially SDGs 6, 7, 9, 11 and 17. The discussion will show how transformation pathways based on scientific insights, co-designed with stakeholders and supported by blended finance, can translate public goals into investable projects, long-term sustainability needs into fund-compatible assets, and existing risks into risks that are effectively priced and allocated. On top of her presence at these events, she has contributed to the Forum by means of four written documents: Report the the 10-Member-Group Policy Brief: Addressing fossil fuel lock-ins critical for stabilizing the climate Policy Brief: Partnerships (SDG 17) for socially equitable and environmentally sustainable trade Additionally, she has also contributed to an Elsevier report on the role of science, technology and innovation in achieving the SDGs through interviews.
